Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has commissioned a transmission project designed to evacuate power from the 2,500 MW Solar Energy Zone in Bidar, Karnataka. The project achieved its Date of Commercial Operation (DOCO) on October 5, 2026, with the company receiving formal notification by email on October 8, 2026.
The project was awarded under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework and is intended to strengthen transmission infrastructure for renewable energy integration in Karnataka.
The transmission project was initially assigned to POWERGRID Bidar Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of POWERGRID. The entity was subsequently amalgamated with POWERGRID Khavda II-C Transmission Limited, effective March 1, 2026. The merger was carried out pursuant to an order issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) on January 27, 2026.
Transmission Infrastructure Expands to Support Karnataka’s Renewable Energy Capacity Karnataka has seen several transmission infrastructure developments aimed at enabling the evacuation of electricity from large-scale renewable energy projects.
Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company Kshema Power previously secured a transmission order to develop infrastructure for a 315 MW wind power project being developed by a leading independent power producer (IPP). The project is part of efforts to strengthen grid connectivity for renewable generation.
In another development, Jyoti Structures Limited (JSL), headquartered in Mumbai, commissioned the 400 kV Gadag–II Transmission Line for ReNew Power in Karnataka. The line was developed to evacuate renewable electricity from the Koppal Solar Energy Zone, which has an estimated generation capacity of 1,500 MW. The project was implemented under the Build, Own, Operate and Maintain (BOOM) model.
Bajel Projects has also secured an order for Package TL01 of the Bellary–Davanagere transmission line. The package covers a second 400 kV quad double-circuit transmission line intended to support the integration of additional renewable energy capacity of 0.25 GW at Davanagere and 2.75 GW at Bellary. The project involves a 70 km, 400 kV quad double-circuit transmission line connecting the Bellary and Davanagere substations. Grid Connectivity Remains Key to Renewable Energy Evacuation
The commissioning of POWERGRID’s Bidar transmission project adds infrastructure to support the integration of large-scale solar power into the electricity network. Transmission projects across Karnataka are playing an important role in connecting solar and wind generation sites to the grid, helping accommodate rising renewable energy capacity and strengthen the state’s power transmission system.
