President Droupadi Murmu Felicitates Winners on National Energy Conservation Day 2025

The Ministry of Power announces the celebration of National Energy Conservation Day 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu felicitated the winners of the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2025 and the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2025. The event, organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), highlighted India’s commitment to advancing energy efficiency, sustainability, and responsible energy use across all sectors of the economy.

Addressing the gathering, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the President said, “Energy conservation is the most reliable and environment-friendly source of energy. Saving energy is equivalent to producing energy, and that too without placing any additional pressure on our natural resources.” She noted that as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, India’s rising energy needs driven by wider electricity access, urbanisation, industrial growth and improved living standards must be met in a sustainable and responsible manner.

Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs said that “India has positioned itself at the forefront of the global energy shift, aligning its plans with the goal of limiting the increase in worldwide temperatures to below two degrees Celsius.” He noted that India is one of the fastest growing economies having one of the best energy efficiency improvement rate.

The minister underlined the important role played by the BEE’s initiatives, including the PAT scheme, ADEETIE, Standards & Labelling, and other flagship programs, in driving energy conservation nationwide. He said that India’s emissions have risen at a rate much lower than the growth rate of GDP, clearly demonstrating that the country has successfully decoupled economic growth from greenhouse gas emissions.

Shri Manohar Lal said, “India has achieved a historic milestone in its energy transition journey. we have reached 50% of installed capacity from non-fossil sources five years ahead of the target set under the Paris Agreement’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).”

India is fully committed to achieving its emissions emission reduction. With this goal in mind, the Ministry of Power has notified the Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO). Under the RCO, all designated consumers, such as DISCOMs, captive power plants, and open access users, must ensure that a minimum portion of their total electricity consumption comes from non-fossil sources.

Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Power said that “the National Energy Conservation Awards have created a strong tradition of recognizing outstanding efforts in energy conservation.” He added, “Energy conservation isn’t just a matter of technology- it’s also about behaviour change. Turning off a switch, choosing energy efficient appliances, and sustainable actions by citizens can make a huge difference to the cause of energy conservation.”

He further said that India’s youth is increasingly engaging with the energy conservation movement, and that rising awareness among students through schools and colleges shows that this initiative is becoming an integral part of the mindset of a New India.

Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, stated that “the visionary leadership of Prime Minister has been central to placing energy efficiency and energy conservation at the core of India’s development model.” He said that India’s Energy Security, Green Growth and goals of Viksit Bharat 2047 can be achieved only through judicious use of energy.

Shri Dhiraj Kumar Srivastava, Director General, BEE, highlighted the introduction of a new award category for Social Media Influencers and Digital Content Creators, recognizing the growing role of digital platforms in enhancing public awareness and engagement on energy efficiency and conservation.

National Energy Conservation Awards 2025

To raise awareness about energy efficiency and its conservation, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the guidance of the Ministry of Power, recognizes and encourages the efforts of industrial units, institutions, and establishments in reducing energy consumption by felicitating them with Energy Conservation Awards on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day.

Applications for the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2025 were invited through an open advertisement, encouraging participation from various sectors, including Industry, Buildings, Transport, Institutions, Appliances, Innovation, and Professional. Applications were submitted through the portal [www.neca.beeindia.gov.in](http://www.neca.beeindia.gov.in).

A total of 558 applications were received across sectors, including the Industry, Buildings, Transport, Institutions, Appliances, Innovation, and Professional categories. A new category for social media influencers and digital content creators was introduced to recognize the growing impact of digital engagement on driving public awareness toward energy conservation. This year’s awards included 25 First Prizes, five Second Prizes, 26 Certificates of Merit (CoM), and three Certificates of Recognition (CoR) for Innovation Awards.

National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2025

The National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation, initiated in 2005, aims to inspire societal change through the creative expression of young minds. The competition is organized at school, state, and national levels and targets students of Classes 5th to 10th across two groups: Group A (5th, 6th, and 7th Standards) and Group B (8th, 9th, and 10th Standards).

More than 80 lakh students from across the country participated in the Painting Competition at school, state/UT, and national levels. Students from Classes 5–7 (Group A) and Classes 8–10 (Group B) participated in the National Level Competition held on 11 December 2025 in New Delhi.

The Hon’ble President presented the National Awards to the winners of both categories.
