Rajasthan is boosting clean energy by introducing simple rules (sop) for the first-time charging of battery energy storage (BESS) used with renewable energy projects. These projects come under the Rajasthan Integrated clean energy policy 2024 and include both running and upcoming projects.
Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited issued this notification in continuation of an office letter dated January 7, 2026 within this framework. Now, Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited has issued a formal notification detailing the procedures for the First Time Charging (FTC) of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) linked to RE projects. The SOP is applicable to projects that are already commissioned as well as those yet to be commissioned under the same policy, across both captive and other categories.
Rajasthan Brings SOP for Commissioned Projects
Further detailing the framework, Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited has outlined in Annexure-2 the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) governing the execution of First Time Charging (FTC) for BESS installations integrated with RE projects, regardless of their commissioning status under the Rajasthan Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024.
Under Annexure-B, the Rajasthan utility has clarified that RE developers must carry out specified tests and simulations involving BESS. These requirements were also referenced earlier in the January 7, 2026, communication on the SOP for RE connectivity to RVPN Grid Sub-Stations (GSS).
Developers are required to submit relevant reports to ensure compliance with Central Electricity Authority (CEA) Grid Connectivity Standards, along with other applicable guidelines issued by statutory bodies.
This move is based on earlier rules for connecting renewable energy projects to Rajasthan’s grid before starting the first-time charging process.
