Relux Electric, a top provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, has shared its plan to expand its public and highway EV charging network throughout India. The company highlights both its current successes and its future growth plans.
The company has already established a large charging network in South India and plans to grow it across the country with strong project funding. Relux Electric’s deployment method emphasizes providing reliable charging access for EV users and building partnerships with important players in the ecosystem.
Current Charging Network Footprint
Relux Electric has successfully established over 200 charging stations across strategic urban and highway locations and offers more than 500 individual charging points to ensure greater availability for EV users.
The network is strategically present in major South Indian cities including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Kochi and Vijayawada, as well as on crucial inter-city highway corridors such as Bangalore–Chennai, Bangalore–Hyderabad and Chennai–Coimbatore.
Charging Technology Portfolio
Relux Electric’s charging infrastructure includes a versatile range of DC fast chargers tailored to different use cases:
- 30 kW units suited for residential complexes and fleet depots
- 60 kW chargers for rapid urban top-ups
- 120 kW and 180 kW high-power chargers along highways for faster charging of cars and commercial vehicles
The company is also evaluating higher-capacity chargers for future deployments to support further speeds and vehicle types.
Pan-India Expansion Plans
While Relux’s foundation remains strong in South India, achieving a pan-India presence is central to the company’s vision. Expansion will occur in a phased approach:
Phase 1 (Current): Consolidate leadership in South Indian states and major highway corridors.
Phase 2 (Next 12–18 Months): Aggressively enter regions including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan, securing real estate, partnerships, and regulatory approvals.
The rollout strategy follows a “Hub-and-Spoke” model, starting with metropolitan hubs such as Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Bhubaneswar, and then connecting these cities with robust highway charging infrastructure.
Stakeholder Collaborations
Relux Electric works with a diverse range of partners to deploy its charging infrastructure:
- Automakers: Including leading brands, with advanced talks underway with global players such as VinFast and BYD.
- Fleet Operators: Collaborations with logistics companies, delivery fleets and cab aggregators for depot and destination charging.
- State Authorities & Real Estate: Engagements with bodies like TNGECL, TNEB, SIPCOT and commercial developers to secure high-visibility sites.
Relux also pursues strategic partnerships with charger manufacturers and technology providers, focusing on seamless interoperability through OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface) integration.
Deployment of INR 250 Crore Project Funding
In 2024, Relux Electric secured INR 250 crore in project funding to support its next phase of growth.
The company plans to strategically deploy this funding across several priority areas:
- Network Density (60%): Set up 300+ new charging stations and 1000+ additional charging points across current and new regions.
- Technology & Platform (20%): Enhance the user-facing app, backend systems and analytics for improved user experience and network optimisation.
- High-Power Charging (15%): Deploy more 180 kW+ DC fast chargers and prepare for upcoming technologies like CCS2 standards.
- Strategic Partnerships & Talent (5%): Build alliances and recruit talent to execute operational plans.
Holistic Charging Ecosystem Commitment
Although Relux Electric’s core focus remains on public, semi-public and highway charging infrastructure, the company also supports the broader ecosystem by offering home and workplace charging solutions through partnerships. These services include consultation, installation and ongoing maintenance support.
