Central Government of India has allocated funds for eight hundred crore rupees under FAME Scheme Phase -2 for setting up seven thousand 432 public fast charging stations across the country.

charging stations The government has formulated the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) India Scheme in 2015 to improve the infrastructure required for the large-scale use of electric vehicles.

Heavy Industries Minister, Mahendra Nath Pandey said, a wide network of electric vehicle charging stations will be soon deployed across the country by Oil Marketing Companies.

The companies are Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. He said the installation is expected to be completed by March next year.

At present, there are about six thousand 586 charging stations across the country.

The addition of the new seven thousand 432 public charging stations will be a significant push to Electric Vehicles charging ecosystem.

Pandey said this move will give a boost to the electric vehicle ecosystem in India and encourage more people to switch to cleaner modes of transportation.

The Committee headed by DG Bureau of Energy Efficiency has recommended certain changes to improve the viability of the development of public charging infrastructure.

It includes supporting the upstream infrastructure, which generally cost up to 60 percent of overall cost of setting up a Public Electric Vehicle charging station.

This will make the installation of charging stations easier by reducing the upfront cost. In addition, the earlier subsidy of 70 per cent on Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment will continue as before.
