In a significant move towards a sustainable energy future, the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three state-owned utilities in Odisha—GEDCOL, OHPC, and OREDA. This collaboration represents a major advancement in Odisha’s clean energy transformation and underscores SECI’s commitment to furthering India’s renewable energy objectives.
The MoU was signed by Shri A.K. Naik, Executive Director of SECI, alongside Shri Pranab Kumar Mohanty, Managing Director of GEDCOL; Shri Amiya Kumar Mohanty, Director (Operations) of OHPC; and Shri Saudutta Biplab Keshari Pradhan, CEO of OREDA. The signing ceremony took place as part of the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit, which was held in Puri from December 5th to 7th, 2025. The event was attended by senior officials from the Government of Odisha, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and SECI.
The MoU outlines a series of ambitious renewable energy projects, including a 1000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), pumped storage projects, 2.5 GW of floating solar and solar projects combined with BESS, as well as other advanced renewable technologies. These initiatives aim to strengthen Odisha’s renewable energy infrastructure and accelerate the state’s transition to clean energy. The projects are expected to enhance the state’s energy security while generating both direct and indirect employment opportunities through various contracts and initiatives, thus contributing to the local economy.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the drive towards a more sustainable energy landscape, reflecting the increasing momentum of India’s renewable energy sector.
