Sembcorp Industries, through its India renewables arm Sembcorp Green Infra Private Limited, has secured a 150 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project from SJVN Limited under India’s pioneering large-scale FDRE tender.
The award is part of SJVN’s 6,000 MWh (1,500 MW × 4 hours) tender programme designed to deliver assured peak-power through renewable energy assets integrated with battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Under the build-own-operate model, Sembcorp will develop around 750 MW of solar generation and large-scale storage capacity combining solar and BESS to meet the firm-capacity obligation. The company aims to reach commercial operation within 24 months of signing a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SJVN. The project will be financed through a mix of internal funds and debt.
Speaking on the milestone, A. Nithyanand, CEO – Renewables Business, India, Sembcorp Industries, said:
“This FDRE project award marks a significant milestone in our journey to deliver reliable, clean energy solutions in India. With a secured development pipeline of over 4 GW in solar and wind capacity, and more than 1.4 GWh of BESS capacity, Sembcorp is well placed to support India’s growing need for flexible, round-the-clock renewable power.”
With this contract win, Sembcorp’s overall renewables capacity in India has now exceeded 7.6 GW, and the group’s global renewables portfolio stands at 20.1 GW, including projects under development and acquisitions.
