At its main facility in Mladá Boleslav, Skoda Auto has manufactured its one-millionth battery system. Since 2019, when it began producing batteries for the Superb iV with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, the automaker has been producing high voltage traction batteries.

The company’s current focus is solely on manufacturing larger batteries for fully electric vehicles using the MEB platform; 1,500 units are produced daily by two assembly lines. The Skoda Enyaq and Elroq, along with other Volkswagen Group models like Volkswagen, SEAT/CUPRA, and Audi, are equipped with these batteries, which have capacities ranging from 55 to 91 kWh (net capacity 52 to 86 kWh).

“Reaching the milestone of one million battery systems manufactured by Skoda Auto for Volkswagen Group cars is a testament to the commitment of our team and the tight cooperation among the various brands,” said Andreas Dick, Skoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics. “This accomplishment also demonstrates our dedication to environmentally friendly mobility and our role in propelling the sector’s shift to a more sustainable future. We are currently resolutely moving forward with the following actions: In Mladá Boleslav, work is already under way on a second battery system plant.”

Since the launch of the traction battery assembly for the plug-in hybrid Superb iV vehicle in September 2019, Skoda Auto has been manufacturing high-voltage battery systems. Based on the MEB technology, the Mladá Boleslav facility began producing battery systems for all-electric vehicles in May 2022. In addition to Volkswagen, Audi, and SEAT/CUPRA vehicles, these systems are found in the Enyaq and the recently released SUV Elroq.
