Sungrow, a global provider of photovoltaic (PV) inverters and energy storage solutions, has launched its new PowerStack 255CS Series for commercial and industrial (C&I) applications at Intersolar Europe. The company unveiled the advanced on-grid and off-grid solar-plus-storage solution designed to improve energy resilience, reduce electricity costs, and support businesses in their decarbonisation efforts.
The launch comes amid growing demand for integrated solar and energy storage systems as businesses worldwide face rising electricity prices, grid instability concerns, and the need for reliable backup power solutions. Sungrow’s latest solution combines renewable energy generation with battery storage to help commercial and industrial users achieve greater energy independence.
The C&I PowerStack On&Off-Grid Solar-Storage solution supports multiple operating modes, including virtual power plant (VPP), demand control, virtual synchronous generator (VSG), backup power, seamless grid switching, and black start capabilities. These features enable the system to operate efficiently across different grid conditions and energy requirements.
As part of the PowerStack platform, Sungrow has introduced two system architectures — DC-coupled and AC-coupled configurations.
The DC-coupled system integrates the SH125CX hybrid inverter with the ST245CS-S energy storage system, combining solar generation, battery storage, and diesel generation into a unified solution. The architecture allows smooth transition between grid-connected and off-grid operations.
According to Sungrow, the DC-coupled configuration can eliminate the requirement for an additional automatic transfer switch (ATS) cabinet for facilities with power demand up to 250 kW, helping reduce initial investment costs and simplify system design. The setup also enables direct solar charging of batteries, improving renewable energy utilisation and overall efficiency.
The AC-coupled configuration combines Sungrow’s SG series PV inverter with the ST255CS storage system and ATS1250. This solution is designed to provide backup power during grid failures and can synchronise with diesel generators during extended outages. It is also suitable for existing solar installations looking to integrate energy storage through a simpler retrofit process.
Sungrow highlighted that the DC-coupled system is more suitable for new projects due to its cost advantages, while the AC-coupled option is targeted at existing facilities requiring additional storage capacity without major infrastructure changes.
The PowerStack 255CS Series can be deployed across various sectors, including commercial buildings, agriculture, logistics centres, and islanded power systems. The system supports scalable installation from single-unit setups to multi-cabinet configurations and offers remote monitoring through Sungrow’s iSolarCloud platform.
The solution includes advanced safety features such as early risk warning systems, multi-level overcurrent protection, and fire suppression mechanisms to improve operational reliability.
