Sunsure Energy on Thursday announced its agreement with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam on a 500 MWh peak power supply under a battery energy storage system to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation.
Sunsure Energy, the renewable energy provider of businesses and utilities making decisions to switch to green power, is proud to announce that it has signed a Battery Energy Discharge Purchase Agreement (BEDPA) with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN), wholly owned by NTPC Ltd, at 125 MW / 500 MWh, a company statement asserted.
Supported by a 15-year contract, Sunsure will provide power to NVVN, where the final procurement is under Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL).
By the arrangement
Sunsure will establish a separate Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) under the build-own-operate model of the Garautha substation (400/220 kV) at Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
The project is the first long-term power supply contract of Sunsure under BESS.
Under the arrangement
Sunsure will be providing 4 hours of on-demand power between 6 pm and 10 am, leaving UPPCL with the flexibility of sourcing clean energy during the peak demand periods (evening or morning) at long-term and competitive tariffs.
It is a historic change in the Indian energy storage ecosystem since it is the first BESS contract in India, with a fixed monthly rate being eliminated in favor of a fixed tariff (Rs/kWh) of discharged energy.
Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Sunsure Energy, said in the statement, “We’ve moved from pure-solar offerings to hybrid systems with BESS, enabling C&I customers to access renewable energy even during peak hours, while displacing more fossil energy from their energy mix. On the utility side, our evolution is clear—from winning SECI’s pure solar bids to SJVN’s advanced hybrid tenders, and now, NVVN’s first-of-its-kind BESS deployment in the country.”
