Tamil Nadu Signs rs 15,037 Crore MoU with Vikram Solar for BESS Plant

The Tamil Nadu government and Vikram Solar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Gangaikondan, Tirunelveli district. The project would cost ₹15,037 crore and is expected to enhance the state’s manufacturing ecosystem for renewable energy.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was present when the MoU was signed at the State Secretariat during a ceremony hosted by the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce. The state government estimates that the project will create about 2,670 direct and indirect job opportunities.

Vikram Solar Increases Production of Energy Storage

Chief Executive Officer Arun Mittal, Capital Investment Project Director Ashwini Agarwal, and Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary represented Vikram Solar during the signing.

The proposed investment marks the company’s expansion into advanced battery energy storage manufacturing, complementing its existing solar manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu.

Enhances the Present Manufacturing Foundation

Vikram Solar presently operates two solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing facilities in the states of Oragadam and Vallam. In Gangaikondan, the company also constructed an integrated solar PV cell and module production facility.

The addition of a large-scale BESS manufacturing plant is expected further to strengthen Vikram Solar manufacturing footprint in Tamil Nadu while supporting the growing demand for energy storage solutions alongside renewable power deployment.

According to the state government, the investment is a reflection of Tamil Nadu’s ongoing efforts to develop its industrial base and draw in large-scale sustainable energy manufacturing ventures. Senior government officials, Vikram Solar representatives, Chief Secretary M. Saikumar, and Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S. Keerthana were present for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.
