Alamo City BESS will be developed through a Memorandum of Understanding between Texas-based OCI Energy LLC, CPS Energy, and LG Energy Solution Vertech. Officials signed the agreement as part of a ceremony in Seoul, South Korea, where the headquarters of both companies are based. This agreement moves the community a step closer to stronger and more reliable energy for all residents and businesses in San Antonio.
The Alamo City BESS will consist of a 120 MW / 480 MWh energy storage system being built in Bexar County, Texas. With the construction finished, the plant will supply energy to ERCOT when it is in highest need and assist San Antonio in achieving long-term sustainability and influential energy sources. The project has also played a big role in boosting the state’s battery storage capabilities.
“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to energy innovation and affordability. The Alamo City BESS project demonstrates the strength of international partnerships in delivering critical energy infrastructure that will provide CPS Energy customers with greater energy security. We are proud to work alongside CPS Energy and LG Energy Solution Vertech to realize this vision for a stronger, safer grid that provides more affordable power while supporting local economic development.”
– Sabah Bayatli, President of OCI Energy.
“We are proud to support San Antonio’s energy transition through this strategic collaboration. This project integrates our advanced lithium-ion batteries with comprehensive solutions—including system integration, control software, and long-term services. The deployment of our BESS marks a key milestone in stabilizing the Texas power grid, and we remain committed to advancing grid reliability as we expand our efforts across Texas.”
– Jaehong Park, President and CEO of LG Energy Solution Vertech.
According to the MOU, LG Energy Solution Vertech will supply batteries and energy management tools for the project being led by OCI Energy. OCI Energy has agreed to sell energy storage capacity from the project to CPS Energy, who will be the off-taker.
The company will be in charge of all activities from development through ownership. The alliance highlights the important role CPS Energy is taking in helping Texas move toward sustainable energy.
It is expected that the project will make the grid more stable and help move the state toward producing flexible and cleaner energy.
