TPEVCSL Partners with Varanasi Smart City to Accelerate EV Infrastructure Development

Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEVCSL), a leading EV charging solutions provider and a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Varanasi Smart City Limited (VSCL) to strengthen the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Varanasi and support the city’s transition towards sustainable mobility.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Shri Himanshu Nagpal, Municipal Commissioner and CEO, Varanasi Smart City Limited, on the occasion of World Environment Day, reflecting the shared commitment of both organisations towards advancing sustainable mobility and environmentally responsible urban development.

Under this partnership, TPEVCSL and Varanasi Smart City Limited will work together to identify and deploy EV charging infrastructure at key locations across the city—including public parking areas, transit hubs, municipal assets, commercial centres, and tourist spots. The initiative aims to expand access to charging facilities, with provision to scale alongside the city’s evolving mobility needs.

The network will focus on high-traffic, transit-orientated locations, ensuring convenient and reliable charging for EV users. This collaboration supports the Government of Uttar Pradesh’s vision for green mobility and aligns with the objectives of the Smart Cities Mission. It also reinforces Varanasi Smart City’s commitment to building future-ready infrastructure and promoting sustainable urban transport.

Marking World Environment Day, both organisations also undertook a plantation drive themed “Planting Today for a Greener Tomorrow”. Saplings were planted as part of the initiative, underscoring their shared commitment to environmental sustainability and greener urban development. The drive complements ongoing efforts to increase green cover while encouraging cleaner mobility solutions.

TPEVCSL has already established a strong presence across Varanasi, with installations at prominent locations such as Taj Ganges, Hotel Surya, and Brijlax Motors TML – demonstrating robust market penetration and trusted partnerships across key sectors.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) is a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited and is one of the country’s most significant renewable energy players. TPREL is a developer of renewable energy projects (including solar, wind, hybrid, round-the-clock (RTC), peak, floating solar, and storage systems, including battery storage) that it owns, operates, and maintains. It also offers comprehensive green energy solutions for rural and urban areas, like turnkey, EPC and O&M solutions for various business segments like utility-scale projects, solar rooftops and solar pump systems.

The Tata Power Company Limited, a leading integrated power company and a part of the Tata Group, India’s largest multinational business conglomerate, owns a diversified portfolio of 16.3 GW. This portfolio spans the entire power value chain, from renewable and conventional energy generation to transmission, distribution, trading, storage solutions, and solar cell and module manufacturing.
