TPSDI has launched a state-of-the-art Green Energy Skill Centre in Rohini, New Delhi, to train a future-ready workforce in renewable energy.

Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), the pioneering institute of excellence for training and skill development in the energy sector, has launched a Green Energy Skill Centre at Rohini, New Delhi. The Centre will impart training in renewable energy technologies viz Solar PV systems, including installation, commissioning and O&M; energy storage; pumped hydro storage; and electrical safety to prepare a future-ready green energy workforce for the country’s energy transition.

The Centre was inaugurated by Mr. Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India and Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power.

The event was also attended by senior officials from MNRE, NITI Aayog, REC, National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), Tata Power and Tata Power Delhi Distribution.

TPSDI, having a dual awarding body status from NCVET, has curated courses blending the standards of the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and NCVET-approved Qualification Packs (QPs). By aligning its training offerings with national priorities like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana under MNRE’s skilling framework, TPSDI showcases dual excellence, supporting India’s mission of sustainable development along with positioning itself as an institute of excellence, being the first choice for training and skill development.

TPSDI is an institute of excellence in energy sector training, offering over 200 modular courses across green energy, safety, transmission & distribution, power systems, and soft skills. With a strong focus on hands-on, practical training, TPSDI has trained over 3.43 lakh people, clocking 1.3 million person-days, including more than 50,000 beneficiaries from affirmative action groups and over 18,000 women in the last decade. It currently operates 6 full-fledged Training Hubs in Mundra (GJ), Shahad, Trombay, Vidyavihar (MH), Wayanad (KL), Maithon, and Jojobera (JH), and 5 Spokes in Bikaner (RJ), Prayagraj (UP), Balasore (OD), and Tirunelveli (TN), with 4 more Hubs planned in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Cuttack—making this newly inaugurated Hub the 12th in India. TPSDI has plans to set up 8 additional centers this year.

Further, TPSDI has also conducted training across 43+ locations, including in Bhutan, Ethiopia, and Liberia. Through Green Energy Skilling Centers, such as those in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, TPSDI trains youth in solar PV installation, commissioning, maintenance, solar system design, wind and hydro O&M, and emerging areas like green hydrogen. These centers not only empower and benefit youth for careers in the fast-growing clean energy sector but also support government initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

TPSDI is an affiliated training partner of the Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC) & Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) and is among the first few private skilling bodies to have NCVET affiliation and recognition as a dual awarding body, allowing trainees to take advantage of our varied courses that are government recognized. TPSDI’s unique training blends life-sized industrial models, simulators, e-learning, and virtual reality, supplemented by its Virtual Academy of Skills for remote access. Recognized by CEA, ISO 21001:2018, NCVET, and affiliated with PSSC and SCGJ, TPSDI is playing a pivotal role in building India’s green workforce by enabling employability, fostering entrepreneurship, and advancing a safety-first culture within India’s power sector.

The newly developed center is located at Rohini in the Cenpeid campus, a Tata Power-DDL Training Center, marking the coming together of two major learning wings at Tata Power.
