Jinko ESS to Deploy 25 MWh SunTera G2 Energy Storage Project in MEA Region

Trina Storage and Atlas Renewable Energy have joined forces to deliver one of the most advanced energy storage systems in Latin America: the Copiapó PV + BESS Project, a 233 MW / 932 MWh grid-forming (GFM) facility located in Chile’s Atacama Region.

With the rapid growth of solar and wind power across Latin America, challenges to grid stability are intensifying. Grid-forming energy storage has become vital to maintaining power-system reliability. This project will adopt GFM technology aligned with Chile’s upcoming BESS technical regulations, designed to improve the robustness and resilience of the electrical system. Unlike traditional grid-following (GFL) systems, which only shift and manage energy, this project will actively support the grid through fast responses to electrical disturbances, enhancing the reliability of the Chilean National Grid.

The project follows Atlas Renewable Energy’s recent USD 475 million financing closure, which will fund the construction of this large-scale solar-plus-storage complex designed to supply clean energy to Chile’s mining sector while strengthening the resilience of the national grid.

Trina Storage will accompany the project from LFP battery cell manufacturing to on-site supervision, commissioning, and long-term service, with dedicated personnel on site. This approach highlights the company’s vertically integrated model and its role as a comprehensive technology partner.

The Elementa 2 storage solution selected for the project is engineered for extreme environments like the Atacama Desert, combining high energy density, long lifecycle, advanced safety, and optimized maintenance, ensuring reliable performance in demanding conditions. The project will also serve as a technical reference for other Latin American markets closely following the progress of GFM regulations and large-scale BESS deployment in the region.

“This large-scale project will showcase Trina Storage’s grid-forming technology, enhancing grid stability in Chile,” said Vicente Walker, Head of Trina Storage LATAM. “It also marks another major step in our regional growth—adding to the 1.2 GWh already shipped in 2025 and over 2.5 GWh in signed contracts for 2026 across Chile, Argentina, and Central America.”

To better serve the Latin American market, Trina Storage has built strong local service capabilities and regional engineering expertise. Its in-country teams ensure compliance with local grid codes, regulatory standards, and financing requirements—advantages clearly demonstrated in its collaboration with Atlas Renewable Energy.

With the Copiapó PV + BESS Project, Trina Storage reinforces its leadership in utility-scale, bankable, and grid-stabilizing storage solutions, driving a resilient and sustainable clean-energy future for Latin America.
