UP to Get 714 New EV Charging Stations Under ₹500-Crore Central Scheme

Uttar Pradesh is set to receive 714 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations under a ₹500-crore central government programme aimed at significantly expanding public charging infrastructure across highways, urban areas, and major transport corridors. The move is part of a broader national push to strengthen EV readiness and support large-scale electric mobility adoption.

The initiative is expected to improve charging accessibility across the state and reduce range anxiety for EV users which remains one of the key barriers to faster adoption. With rising demand for both personal electric vehicles and commercial fleets, the new infrastructure is likely to play an important role in supporting daily mobility needs as well as long-distance travel.

Uttar Pradesh, being one of India’s largest and most densely populated states, is seen as a critical market for EV growth. Increasing urbanisation, expanding logistics activity, and growing intercity travel demand are all driving the need for a stronger and more reliable charging network.

The rollout also reflects a clear shift in India’s EV strategy, where the focus is moving beyond vehicle incentives toward building a robust charging ecosystem. Policymakers are increasingly prioritising infrastructure expansion alongside manufacturing and vehicle deployment to ensure balanced growth of the EV sector.

In the coming months, India is expected to see faster deployment of highway fast-charging corridors, stronger public-private partnerships, and more state-led infrastructure projects. These developments are likely to make charging networks a central pillar of India’s next phase of electric mobility expansion.
