Vena Energy Partners with CATL for Indonesia-Singapore Solar Project

Vena Energy Partners with CATL for Indonesia-Singapore Solar Project

Vena Energy, the renewable energy arm of Vena Group and a major green energy solutions provider across the Asia-Pacific region, has announced a major milestone for its Indonesia-Singapore renewable energy project, signing a framework supply agreement with leading battery technology company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL).

The agreement marks significant progress for Vena Energy’s plan to export clean solar power from Indonesia’s Riau Islands directly to Singapore. The project, which received conditional approval from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority in September 2024, is expected to generate over 2.6 terawatt hours of green energy annually for Singapore households and businesses.

Under the agreement, Vena Energy’s local subsidiary, PT Infrastruktur Terbarukan Sedaya, will procure CATL’s EnerX Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a capacity of up to 4 gigawatt hours (GWh). The batteries will be manufactured locally at CATL’s new factory in the Karawang regency in West Java province, creating valuable local employment opportunities.

The project will feature more than 2 gigawatt peak (GWp) of solar capacity, with the battery systems storing solar energy during the day for dispatch via a subsea power cable that functions as a transmission interconnector to Singapore’s grid.

Rudy Sembiring, Head of Indonesia at Vena Energy, said the agreement represents a significant milestone that will benefit both countries through clean energy collaboration and local job creation.

“The partnership with CATL represents a step forward for the Indonesia-Singapore renewable energy corridor. By securing leading battery technology manufactured locally in Indonesia, we are supporting green development in the region while creating employment opportunities and strengthening Indonesia’s clean energy sector,” he said.

Zhuwei, Executive President of APAC, reaffirmed CATL will provide the cutting-edge battery and energy technologies for the cross-border project, designed to decarbonize and create real value for partners worldwide.

“For its supply to Vena Energy, the batteries will be manufactured in CATL’s factory in the Karawang regency in Indonesia’s West Java province. The factory, which broke ground at the end of June, has a total battery capacity of 15 GW,” he said.

The project exemplifies how cross-border renewable energy partnerships can drive economic growth and support clean energy development across the region.
