Vikram Solar Appoints Arun Mittal as CEO of Its Energy Storage Arm VSL Powerhive

Vikram Solar has announced the appointment of Arun Mittal as the Chief Executive Officer of VSL Powerhive, the company’s wholly owned subsidiary focused on energy-storage systems and solutions. The appointment comes as energy storage plays an increasingly critical role in enabling grid stability, peak management, and round-the-clock renewable power. Vikram Solar said VSL Powerhive will be central to its ambition of becoming an integrated energy-transition solutions company.

The company is currently scaling up its manufacturing base. With the commissioning of a new 5 GW manufacturing facility, Vikram Solar’s total module-manufacturing capacity has more than doubled from 4.5 GW to 9.5 GW.

It is also executing the next expansion phase, adding another 6 GW of manufacturing capacity, which will raise total module capacity to 15.5 GW. This expansion is complemented by a 12 GW solar-cell manufacturing facility under execution, scheduled for commissioning in FY27, as the company deepens backward integration and strengthens India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem.

Commenting on the appointment, Chairman & Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary said:

“Battery energy storage is the backbone of the next phase of the global clean energy transition, and its importance in ensuring reliability and grid stability cannot be overstated. As we expand our vision for a sustainable future, BESS innovation will play a pivotal role in delivering resilient, efficient, and scalable energy solutions for the world. Arun’s leadership will accelerate our ambition to create world-class battery capabilities and build a strong, future-ready energy storage ecosystem.”

Arun Mittal brings more than three decades of experience in battery manufacturing, energy-storage system design, and strategic business leadership.

Prior to joining Vikram Solar, he served as Managing Director & CEO (India) at Lohum Cleantech Pvt. Ltd., where he strengthened operations in India and advanced circular-economy models for battery recycling. Earlier, he was Managing Director & CEO at Exide Energy Solutions Ltd., where he helped define the company’s lithium-ion battery manufacturing strategy.

Mittal also spent over three decades at Exide Industries Ltd., rising from Management Trainee to Executive Director of its Automotive and Industrial Divisions. He is a member of ICAI, ICSI, and ICMAI.

Speaking on his appointment, Arun Mittal said:

“Energy systems are rapidly becoming more decentralized and storage-driven. Vikram Solar’s ambition to lead India’s storage solutions landscape will significantly strengthen the value we deliver to our customers. At VSL Powerhive, we are firming up our plans to build scalable solutions that accelerate the energy transition journey which India has committed to.”
