Indian clean energy firm Volks Energie will install, supply, and commission nine 15 KWP solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants equipped with nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) battery systems along the Jagdishpur–Haldia–Bokaro–Dhamra Pipeline Project (JHBDPL), operated by GAIL India.
The initiative spans remote locations across Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh, and aims to provide a reliable off-grid energy solution for critical gas infrastructure. The Ni-Cd battery systems, known for their robust performance and 20-year lifespan, are particularly suited for areas with harsh climatic conditions and limited grid connectivity.
This solar-plus-storage deployment directly aligns with India’s renewable energy ambitions, including the national goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
Volks Energie emphasized that the partnership with GAIL marks a broader push towards decentralized, sustainable energy solutions for infrastructure assets in India. The company has previously implemented similar solutions and highlighted the reliability of Ni-Cd technology in mission-critical environments.
“We are honoured to be entrusted with this opportunity by GAIL and JHBDPL,” said Piyush Goyal, Co-Founder and CEO of Volks Energie. “With our expertise in ‘Solar plus Ni-Cd’, we are committed to delivering safe, durable, and uninterrupted power across strategic sites in northern and eastern India, contributing to the country’s clean energy future.”
This project strengthens India’s move toward self-sufficient, grid-independent renewable infrastructure, especially for energy-intensive public utilities and remote areas.
