Zum Names JoAnn Covington as New General Counsel

Zūm, a pioneer in contemporary student mobility, has selected JoAnn Covington as its new General Counsel. In order to provide strategic legal counsel and establish governance standards as Zum continues to provide safe, dependable, sustainable, and equitable student transportation across the country, Covington will collaborate with the Zum management team and Board.

Covington formerly served as Chief Legal Officer for Proterra, a maker of battery-electric transit buses, battery systems, and fleet charging infrastructure, and Glydways, a supplier of sustainable public transportation services. Covington has held executive positions with Electronic Arts (EA) and Rocket Fuel Inc., two tech startups.

“I am excited to help Zum achieve its vision to provide safe, efficient, flexible school transportation,” stated JoAnn Covington, General Counsel at Zum. “In this role, I can bring together my work revolutionizing and reimagining public transportation as general counsel to clean transportation companies, and my extensive experience working with cutting-edge software companies to deliver on Zum’s promise for school districts, communities, drivers, children and families.”

“We’re delighted to welcome JoAnn to Zum as we continue to lead a national movement in modernizing student transportation and improving grid resilience for communities nationwide,” stated Ritu Narayan, Founder and CEO at Zum. “JoAnn brings invaluable expertise in transportation, technology and renewable energy — knowledge that aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver increased safety and reliability and to return energy from EV school buses back to the grid.”

With strong partnerships in many of the biggest school districts in the country, such as Los Angeles Unified, San Francisco Unified, Oakland Unified, Seattle Public Schools, Boston Public Schools, Omaha Public Schools, and Kansas City Public Schools, Zum is a national leader in contemporary student transportation, providing services to over 4,000 schools in 14 states.

Please visit Zum’s website to find out more about how Zum is collaborating with thousands of schools to provide contemporary, safe, and dependable student transportation.
