The All India Discoms Association (AIDA) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to collaborate under the India Grids of the Future Accelerator (IGFA) initiative. The MoU was signed by President AIDA, Lokesh Chandra, during Mumbai Climate Week.
GEAPP founded by The Rockefeller Foundation, Ikea Foundation, and Bezos Earth Fund, GEAPP is a global alliance committed to accelerating “just, equitable, and rapid transitions to green energy in developing countries.” Through its “Grids of the Future” initiative, GEAPP is driving large-scale transformation toward “intelligent, flexible, and renewables-ready power systems worldwide.”
Strategic Collaboration
This partnership marks “an important step toward enabling a just, equitable, and accelerated clean energy transition in India’s power distribution sector.” Under the MoU, AIDA will:
- Collaborate in developing comprehensive modernization roadmaps for up to 15 AIDA member utilities
- Support grid digitalization, DER integration, and democratization of energy production and use
- Facilitate capacity building and change management initiatives for utilities
- Help identify priority investable project pipelines and engage funding partners
- Promote knowledge exchange and cross-learning among utilities
Driving Renewable-Ready Grids
The engagement aims to support utilities in building “intelligent, flexible, and renewables-ready grids critical for achieving India’s clean energy ambitions.” This collaboration will enable AIDA’s member utilities to adopt advanced grid technologies, integrate distributed energy resources (DERs), and enhance operational efficiency.
AIDA emphasized, “We look forward to working closely with GEAPP and our member utilities to drive meaningful transformation across the sector.”
The partnership is expected to accelerate India’s clean energy transition by fostering innovation, capacity building, and collaboration among power distribution utilities.
By combining AIDA’s local expertise with GEAPP’s global experience, the initiative seeks to create a scalable model for smart and sustainable grid development across India, strengthening the country’s renewable energy framework.
