Chinese battery solutions provider Anker Solix has introduced its latest home energy storage system, the Solarbank Max AC, a 7 kWh modular battery designed to integrate with existing rooftop solar installations. The new system features a bidirectional 3.5 kW inverter and offers expandable capacity up to 42 kWh, targeting households seeking scalable and flexible storage solutions.
Designed for Rooftop Solar Retrofit Market
The Solarbank Max AC is made just for homes that already have rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems. This lets users add battery storage without having to replace their current inverter setup. This strategy makes the product seem like a useful option for retrofitting, especially in places where more and more people are using solar panels on their roofs.
The system includes a base unit with 7 kWh capacity and can be expanded by adding up to five additional lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery modules, each with 7 kWh capacity. With this modular design, users can change the amount of storage they need based on how much energy they need.
Expansion of Solarbank Product Line
The launch is a big step up from Anker Solix’s previous Solarbank products in Europe, which were mostly for smaller solar systems on balconies. The Solarbank 3 E2700 Pro, for example, gave 2.688 kWh per unit and had a total capacity of 16 kWh. The Solarbank Multisystem, which came out in August 2025, could hold up to 64 kWh by combining multiple units.
With the Solarbank Max AC, the company shifts toward a more robust, single-unit system designed for higher-capacity residential applications.
Flexible Installation and Regulatory Compliance
Depending on where you live, the user can plug in and set up the Solarbank Max AC in some places. But to make sure everything is up to code and works as well as possible, a professional usually has to install full-capacity operation.
Regulations vary across Europe. In Germany, for instance, evolving policies support plug-in systems with output limits up to 800 VA, allowing limited self-installation and registration. These regulatory changes are expected to facilitate broader adoption of home storage systems.
Advancing Home Energy Storage Solutions
Anker Solix is focusing on the retrofit segment to meet the growing need for efficient home energy storage solutions that work with existing solar infrastructure. The Solarbank Max AC is the first all-in-one plug-in home storage system in the world, according to the company.
The launch reflects a broader trend toward modular, user-friendly storage technologies that enhance energy independence and optimize solar power utilization in residential settings.
