Apraava Energy Empowers 21,000 Lives in Northeast India with Solar Initiatives

In a meaningful step towards empowering lives sustainably in Northeast India, Apraava Energy, India’s leading integrated energy solutions provider, has partnered with SELCO Foundation to power community, health, and education facilities in Assam and Nagaland through solar installations. These interventions aim to provide sustainable and reliable energy in the villages, positively impacting over 21,000 lives. The installations are expected to save ~57 tonnes of CO₂ annually, equivalent to planting about 2580 trees per year.

In Assam’s Chirang district, a 27.5 kW solar-powered community facility is supporting a range of development initiatives focused on health, livelihoods, education, and youth engagement. The site includes a weaving unit that empowers local women artisans with skills and sustainable income, mental health and physiotherapy clinics, and a legal aid center supporting women facing domestic abuse. A vibrant youth space facilitates training and cultural programs for over 800 young people, along with regular sports activities. Capacity-building sessions are also conducted for farmers, women entrepreneurs, and local NGOs. Furthermore, over 700 children across 17 forest-based learning centers now have access to clean drinking water and sanitation.

In Nagaland, the villages of Jhakama and Zhadima in Kohima district are benefiting from 22.32 kW of solar installations and inverter systems that are powering schools, health centers, and community areas. These interventions have supported the education of over 1,000 students—including those from remote regions, upgraded five rural schools with digital learning tools, and improved community safety with solar-powered street lighting.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Priyesh Modi, Head of CSR at Apraava Energy, said, “Building sustainable communities lies at the core of our CSR strategy. In the Northeast, we’ve deepened our engagement to address the immediate and long-term needs of communities. This initiative is a strong example of holistic development, uplifting every section of society sustainably. As we continue to grow our business presence in the region, we remain committed to transforming more lives through such interventions.”

As part of its community investment initiatives, Apraava’s Agri-SHE program in Assam is equipping over 3,000 women entrepreneurs with skills in agriculture and livestock-based livelihoods. In collaboration with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, the company has also set up a centralized midday meal kitchen in Jorhat, Assam, which serves about 11,000 nutritious meals to schoolchildren every day. Apraava is further supporting 15 grassroots women changemakers in Assam who are working to uplift disadvantaged communities in the state.

Apraava currently operates transmission assets across Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur. It has also forayed into the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) business with a smart meter project in Assam, which was the first in India to achieve ‘Go-Live’ status under the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
