Atul Auto and Exponent Energy to deploy 15-minute rapid charging for 3-wheeler Electric Vehicles

Atul Auto has teamed up with Exponent Energy to deploy 15-minute rapid charging electric three-wheelers, with a goal of putting at least 15,000 Exponent powered passenger vehicles into operation over the period of three years.

Exponent Energy and Atul Auto will now incorporate Exponent Energy’s OTO three-wheeler mobility platform, which combines battery systems, powertrain components, and vehicle software for Atul Auto’s Vehicles. In the past, the OTO platform has been used for retrofit electric conversions; however, the OTO platform will now be available on new vehicles sold by Atul as part of their OEM operations. In addition, every vehicle built under this partnership will be able to charge at home or at public stations using Exponent’s existing fast charging network.

Exponent Energy’s technology enables a full charge in 15 minutes for commercial vehicles and includes a warranty of up to 2 lakh km. The offering is intended to support vehicle uptime, operational efficiency, and total cost of ownership for commercial users. The companies stated that the partnership is aimed at supporting the adoption of electric mobility in the commercial three-wheeler segment.

Additionally, Exponent Energy has also unveiled an EV Financing platform – Exponent One led by Sandeep Divakaran aiming at supporting the vehicles regarding financing. The platform also come with backup and insurance options.

Arun Vinayak, CEO and Founder of Exponent Energy, said “With Atul Auto, we are bringing rapid charging, financing access, and proven vehicle platform technology together at scale. Our mission is to make electric the better choice, which means addressing the real barriers to adoption. Atul Auto’s strong manufacturing legacy and deep understanding of the threewheeler market make thema natural partner as we scale our mobility platform into OEMintegrated vehicles and ena larger scale.”

Neeraj Chandra, Managing Director of Atul Auto, stated that “Atul Auto has built a strong legacy of delivering reliable and high-quality three-wheelers to customers across India. This partnership with Exponent Energy allows us to bring cutting-edge rapid charging technology to our portfolio, enabling a significantly enhanced value proposition for our customers while accelerating our transition towards electric mobility.”

Atul Auto is a manufacturer of three-wheelers, operating in 25 states with a network of more than 300 sales and service centers (including aftermarket service), and is exporting to more than 20 countries worldwide. In FY 2024-25, Atul Auto reported revenues of over ₹600 Crores. Exponent Energy was established in 2020 and is based in Bengaluru; it develops and manufactures high-speed battery and charging infrastructure products specifically for commercial electric vehicles (EVs). Its development focus is to provide complete charge within 15 minutes (or less), and a complete life cycle of 3000+ charge cycles for EV batteries. Exponent Energy has raised $44.6 MM from a number of different investors including Lightspeed, TDK Ventures, Eight Roads Ventures, YourNest VC, 3one4 Capital, AdvantEdge VC, and the family office for Dr. Pawan Munjal (Chairman & CEO, Hero MotoCorp).
