Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has approved a further investment of ₹65 crore in NTPC BHEL Power Projects Private Limited (NBPPL), its 50:50 joint venture with NTPC Limited.
According to an official disclosure issued by BHEL following its Board meeting held on September 14, 2026, the investment will be made as BHEL’s equity contribution in one or more tranches during FY 2026-27.
The investment is primarily aimed at enabling NBPPL to settle its urgent liabilities and maintain the company as a going concern. BHEL said the equity contribution will be made in cash at face value, while its shareholding in NBPPL will remain at 50%.
NBPPL was incorporated in April 2008 as a joint venture between BHEL and NTPC to execute engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for power plants and manufacture power plant equipment. The company operates in India.
The transaction constitutes a related-party transaction, as NBPPL is jointly owned by BHEL and NTPC. According to BHEL’s disclosure, the equity investment will be made at face value by both promoter companies and will be carried out on an arm’s-length basis. No government or regulatory approvals are required for the investment.
NBPPL reported a provisional turnover of ₹1.04 crore in FY2025-26, compared with ₹3.48 crore in FY2024-25 and ₹18.19 crore in FY2023-24.
