BHEL Approves Rs 65 Crore

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has approved a further investment of ₹65 crore in NTPC BHEL Power Projects Private Limited (NBPPL), its 50:50 joint venture with NTPC Limited.

According to an official disclosure issued by BHEL following its Board meeting held on September 14, 2026, the investment will be made as BHEL’s equity contribution in one or more tranches during FY 2026-27.

The investment is primarily aimed at enabling NBPPL to settle its urgent liabilities and maintain the company as a going concern. BHEL said the equity contribution will be made in cash at face value, while its shareholding in NBPPL will remain at 50%.

NBPPL was incorporated in April 2008 as a joint venture between BHEL and NTPC to execute engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for power plants and manufacture power plant equipment. The company operates in India.

The transaction constitutes a related-party transaction, as NBPPL is jointly owned by BHEL and NTPC. According to BHEL’s disclosure, the equity investment will be made at face value by both promoter companies and will be carried out on an arm’s-length basis. No government or regulatory approvals are required for the investment.

NBPPL reported a provisional turnover of ₹1.04 crore in FY2025-26, compared with ₹3.48 crore in FY2024-25 and ₹18.19 crore in FY2023-24.

The BHEL Board meeting commenced at 4:37 PM on September 14 and concluded at 6:22 PM.

BHEL was incorporated in 1964 as a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), with Government of India currently holding a 58.17% equity stake. Backed by a robust manufacturing network comprising 16 manufacturing units strategically located across India, BHEL possesses extensive capabilities for the design, engineering, manufacturing, and supply of a wide range of capital goods serving both domestic and international markets.
BHEL leverages a robust internal innovation ecosystem that drives the creation and commercialization of advanced solutions for diverse sectors. This capability is augmented by strategic alliances with top global OEMs, ensuring a continuous influx of state-of-the-art technology. Committed to forward-looking growth, BHEL consistently backs its innovation strategy with substantial financial investment, dedicating ~2.4% of revenue towards R&D.

At BHEL, customer service, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility are viewed as integral and mutually reinforcing pillars of long-term value creation. Guided by a strong sense of corporate citizenship, the Company remains committed to conducting its business in a manner that balances economic growth with social progress and environmental stewardship. Through a wide range of initiatives, BHEL actively contributes to community development, with particular focus on skill development, education, healthcare, sanitation, and environmental conservation.

NTPC Limited is India’s largest integrated power utility, driving the nation’s growth with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for over five decades. Established in 1975, NTPC has evolved from a thermal power generator into a diversified energy major with a presence across the entire value chain from conventional and renewable generation to coal mining, power trading, e-mobility, and green hydrogen.

With an installed capacity ~91 GW, NTPC powers every fourth light in India while advancing the country’s clean energy ambitions. The company is leading the charge toward a sustainable future, targeting 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 and investing in emerging technologies such as nuclear power, battery energy storage, carbon capture, and green chemicals.

As a Maharatna company under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, NTPC stands for excellence in engineering, safety, and sustainability. Our operations consistently deliver higher reliability and plant loading than national averages, reflecting our unwavering focus on performance and environmental stewardship.

Beyond power generation, NTPC is committed to empowering communities, nurturing innovation, and building a resilient energy ecosystem that supports India’s rapid economic growth. With people at its core and sustainability at its heart, NTPC continues to energize India’s progress responsibly and relentlessly.
