BYD Energy Storage and Saudi Electricity Company successfully signed the world’s largest grid-scale energy storage projects contracts with a capacity of 12.5GWh at the time. Combined with the previously delivered 2.6GWh project, the total cooperation now has amounted to a massive 15.1GWh of projects. This signing marks a solid and crucial step forward in their collaboration in the renewable energy sector, injecting strong momentum into the development of Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy industry and contributing to the realization of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals. It also signifies that BYD Energy Storage has established a new milestone in global ultra-large-scale energy storage projects. With its leading technological advantages, exceptional delivery capabilities, comprehensive after-sales support system, and all-around comprehensive strength, BYD Energy Storage has successfully earned high praise and deep recognition from the global market, reaching the peak of the industry.
This cooperation with BYD Energy Storage demonstrates Saudi Electricity Company’s determination to introduce advanced Energy Storage technologies to enhance Saudi Arabia’s energy utilization efficiency, and promote leapfrog development in the renewable energy sector, driven by Saudi Arabia‘s ambition to achieve its optimal energy mix of 50% of renewables by 2030.
The BESS equipment in the signed projects will be installed at five sites in the country. BYD Energy Storage will provide new-generation MC Cube-T ESS to Saudi Electric Company. The systems adopt BYD Energy Storage’s globally pioneering CTS (Cell-to-System) super-integrated technology, with a Vcts (proportion of cell volume to system volume) index exceeding 33%. The 12.5GWh energy storage systems will be fully integrated into Saudi Arabia’s power transmission network system, playing a crucial role in addressing the challenges accumulated by the increasing number of renewable energy power generation systems, ensuring stable power supply, and meeting peak energy demand. Meanwhile, it will promote the development of Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure in a flexible, efficient, and economic way, assisting in energy transformation and adding momentum to national energy security.
With 17 years of deep cultivation in the energy storage field, BYD has always adhered to “Technology-based, Innovation-oriented” development philosophy. It has gathered top global scientific research talents and advanced research and development resources, achieving a series of breakthrough achievements in the core technology field of energy storage systems. Its product matrix comprehensively covers various application scenarios on the Generation side, Utility side, and Consumption side. BYD Energy Storage has formed a complete industrial chain integrating energy storage product research, development, manufacturing, sales, and service, committed to providing global customers with overall energy solutions featuring “all-scenarios, all-value, and all-ecology.”
17 years ago, the first pilot BESS system was delivered from BYD to the market to seek for the potential to use the LFP-based Battery System to be coupled in Electricity system for the related values. Till date, records show that there has been an accumulated capacity of more than 75GWh of BESS Equipment delivered from BYD to 350 BESS Projects located in more than 110 countries & regions in the global market. Based on its profound foundation and rich experience, BYD Energy Storage possesses the comprehensive strength to supply the ultra-large-scale projects of over 15.1 GWh at the time, demonstrating excellence in quality control, delivery, and after-sales support.
As a significant achievement in the industry, this signing will redefine the value and status of Electro-chemistry-based Energy Storage solution in the global energy system. Taking this cooperation as a new starting point, BYD Energy Storage will continue to increase investment in technology research and development, accelerate global business development, continuously enhance product and service quality, promote the widespread application and deep integration of energy storage technology, and join hands with global partners to usher in a new era of energy transition, leading the energy storage industry towards a clean and sustainable future!
