Hitachi Energy Signs an MoU with Tamil Nadu to Invest ₹1,000 cr in Chennai Technology Centre and Chengalpattu Manufacturing Facility

Hitachi Energy, the Switzerland-based subsidiary of the Hitachi Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu, to expand its operations in the state.

As part of the agreement, the company will invest ₹1,000 crore to enhance its Global Technology and Innovation Centre in Chennai and expand its manufacturing facility in Chengalpattu. The planned investment will be implemented over the next three to five years and is expected to generate around 1,000 additional high-quality technology jobs, according to a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu government.

The MoU was signed in the presence of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Joseph Vijay, in Chennai on Tuesday. Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries S. Keerthana and Venu Nuguri, managing director of Hitachi India, also attended the event.

Hitachi Energy’s Global Technology and Innovation Centre in Chennai and its manufacturing facility in Chengalpattu were both inaugurated in 2023. The planned expansion reflects the company’s continued commitment to strengthening its technological capabilities and manufacturing presence in Tamil Nadu.

The agreement marks the second major MoU signed under the new TVK government in Tamil Nadu. It follows last month’s agreement with Larsen & Toubro Limited for the implementation of three projects involving an investment of ₹18,600 crore, which are expected to generate employment for 8,200 people.
