SAEL Industries Ltd. has officially commenced work on its ambitious integrated solar manufacturing project in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen domestic solar manufacturing capabilities. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, SAEL Solar P6 Pvt. Ltd., the company recently held the groundbreaking ceremony for the facility, which will house 5 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity and 5 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity.
The upcoming manufacturing complex, spread across nearly 200 acres in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region, is being developed with an initial investment of approximately ₹8,200 crore. Once operational, the project is expected to create an integrated 10 GW solar manufacturing ecosystem and significantly expand SAEL’s manufacturing footprint in the country.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the presence of Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta “Nandi”, Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, Members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly, senior officials from YEIDA and Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), along with industry representatives and members of SAEL’s leadership team.
The facility will manufacture high-efficiency solar cells and TOPCon solar modules, technologies that are increasingly being adopted globally due to their superior efficiency and performance. The project is expected to strengthen India’s domestic solar supply chain at a time when the country is accelerating efforts to reduce dependence on imported solar equipment and support the objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
SAEL had first announced plans for the project in 2025. Following the commissioning of the Jewar facility, the company’s total solar manufacturing capacity is expected to rise to 8.5 GW. Industry observers expect the module manufacturing line to become operational during the first half of 2027, while commercial solar cell production could commence by the end of 2027.
The project is also expected to deliver substantial economic benefits to the region. According to the company, the manufacturing facility will generate around 5,000 direct jobs and nearly 15,000 indirect employment opportunities, further strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as an emerging manufacturing hub for clean energy technologies.
Speaking on the occasion, Sukhbir Singh Awla, Co-Founder and Director, SAEL Industries Limited, said the project represents a major step towards India’s energy self-reliance ambitions. He noted that the investment aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s economic growth aspirations while contributing to the country’s renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem.
Laxit Awla, CEO and Executive Director, SAEL Industries Ltd., said the project reflects the company’s confidence in India’s renewable energy future and the growing demand for domestically manufactured solar products. He added that integrating large-scale solar cell and module manufacturing at a single location would strengthen the resilience of India’s solar supply chain and serve as an example of vertical integration within the sector.
India has been aggressively expanding its domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem through policy measures such as the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes. Large integrated facilities such as SAEL’s upcoming Jewar plant are expected to play a crucial role in supporting the country’s rapidly growing solar deployment targets while building a self-reliant clean energy manufacturing base.
