IIT start-up gets ARAI certification for 60 kW fast charger

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has certified Plugzmart, a smart EV charger maker and start-up based at IIT Madras. This certification denotes compliance with strict operational safety standards and efficiency norms in India for Plugzmart’s 60kW DC fast charger and proprietary controller card.

Highlighting the significance of this milestone, Vivek Samynathan, founder and CEO of Plugzmart, said, “Securing the ARAI certification for our 60kW DC fast charger, especially with our own controller card, is a significant achievement for us. This milestone not only validates our commitment to quality and safety but also reinforces our position as a leader in the EV charging industry. We are also planning to launch several exciting new products this financial year, which will further strengthen our market presence.”

He added “As part of our broader vision, we are dedicated to building a comprehensive ecosystem of hardware and software solutions in the energy domain. Our goal is to provide end-to-end solutions that not only address the current needs of the electric vehicle sector but also pave the way for future innovations in sustainable energy. By integrating smart technologies, advanced control systems, and IoT-enabled platforms, we aim to create a seamless, efficient, and scalable energy infrastructure that supports the global transition to greener and more sustainable transportation options.”

Ragavendra Ravichandran, co-founder, Plugzmart, said, “Plugzmart is a one-stop shop for all EV charging-related products and software services. We pride ourselves on our unique competence in both hardware and software, a distinction no other company in India can claim.”

Currently, Plugzmart is focused on developing high-speed DC chargers with its own controller and PLC module. In the future, Plugzmart aims to offer a wide range of products in the electric vehicle charging segment, strongly emphasising integrated software solutions.

The EV charging sector is part of the broader EV ecosystem, which is rapidly growing in India. As the country pushes towards cleaner energy and transportation solutions, the demand for efficient and accessible EV charging infrastructure is escalating. The sector is supported by both government incentives and private investment, driving innovation and expansion.
