India and Japan have decided to increase their involvement in carbon capture, utilizing and storing green chemicals and biofuels and innovative technologies in the field of the energy sector.
The India-Japan Energy Dialogue was a ministerial-level dialogue held on Monday through video conferencing and co-chaired by Manohar Lal, Minister of Power and Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan.
Through concentrated efforts in the development of steps towards energy security, clean energy transition, and climate change, with a strong focus on the latter, the two countries have been enhancing cooperation in the energy sector under the Japan-India Clean Energy Partnership, a power ministry statement said.
To institutionalize such cooperation, both sides have put in place the India-Japan Energy Dialogue and sectoral Joint Working Groups (JWGs).
Ministries of power, new & renewable energy, oil and coal presented detailed reports on the work done through the respective JWGs and strategies of future cooperation.
The Indian and the Japanese ministers again expressed their interest in energy security and inclusive growth. They embraced efficiency in energy and clean hydrogen, clean ammonia and renewable energy.
The two also planned to increase collaboration with Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage, green chemicals, biofuels and advanced technology in the energy sector.
With the same note, the ministers have underscored that the partnership between India and Japan will remain a key driver towards the realization of secure, resilient and sustainable energy systems in the region of the Indo-Pacific.
