Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM) which is one of the subsidiaries of Jupiter Wagons Limited has officially unveiled its new brand of containerised Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) that is a significant entry into the clean energy storage in India. The new 10-foot and 20-foot air-cooled modular units have scalable storage capacity of 241 kWh to 3 MWh.
Their designs are designed to work across a wide range of applications such as diesel generators, solar storage, energy shifting and backup power to the commercial and industrial customer.
Initial Commercial Implementation
It has rolled out the first 10-foot BESS unit under a strategic alliance with the CK Birla Group company, GMMCO and sold it to Greenlit, a subsidiary of Recube and based in Mumbai, which serves the needs of the events, entertainment, and hospitality industries. JEM and GMMCO will also further cooperation in terms of countrywide implementation of such clean energy solutions.
Vertical Integration of Manufacturing
All of the parts, such as container fabrication, battery assembly, and system integration are developed in-house, and BESS units are produced at the facilities of JEM in Indore and Bangalore. This form of vertical integration is one of the very rare in the energy storage sector in India.
Plans of Expansion and International Grand-Entry
JEM has the aim of expanding the capacity of its Indore plant by increasing it to 5 GWh capacity in the next three years. It is also due to export its first 20-foot unit to the African market in October, and is planning to introduce liquid-cooled BESS units to be used at grid scale.
Executive Remarks
Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Group, stated, “This launch is a major milestone for our battery division. Our systems comply with IEC standards and are undergoing final certifications.”
Pankaj Kumar Jha, Senior VP at GMMCO, added, “Our partnership will accelerate the shift toward round-the-clock sustainable power through GMMCO’s nationwide network.”
Aligned with India’s Net Zero 2070 vision, JEM’s BESS solutions support renewable energy integration, industrial decarbonization, and resilient infrastructure development.
