KPI Green Energy Limited has announced that its subsidiary, Sun Drops Energia Limited, has signed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the development of 445 MW / 890 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Gujarat.
The company disclosed the development through a regulatory filing with BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India.
Large-Scale Battery Storage Projects in Gujarat
According to the deal, Sun Drops Energia Limited will build, own, and run the standalone battery energy storage systems in several places in Gujarat. The projects will have a total capacity of 445 MW / 890 MWh, and the company will provide GUVNL with contracted battery storage capacity for a long time.
Battery energy storage systems play an important role in improving grid stability and supporting the integration of renewable energy by storing surplus electricity and releasing it during periods of high demand.
Award Through Competitive Bidding
The BESPA was secured through a tariff-based competitive bidding process conducted by GUVNL under Phase VII for procuring standalone battery storage capacity.
The Power System Development Fund (PSDF) gives Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to help the project. The goal is to help the country build more large-scale energy storage systems.
Entry into Utility-Scale Energy Storage
According to the company, signing the BESPA marks a significant milestone as KPI Green Energy moves into the implementation phase of its first utility-scale Independent Power Producer (IPP) battery energy storage project.
The company’s strategy is to grow into new areas of the renewable energy sector, especially energy storage solutions that help renewable power integration.
Key Takeaways
- Marks KPI Green Energy’s entry into utility-scale IPP BESS projects
- Strengthens the company’s presence in the energy storage segment
- Supports renewable energy integration and grid reliability
Strengthening Energy Storage in India
As India builds more renewable energy capacity, big battery storage projects are becoming more and more important. BESS projects help make energy more reliable and the grid more efficient by letting people store and use electricity from renewable sources in a flexible way.
With this agreement, KPI Green Energy is taking a major step toward supporting the growth of energy storage infrastructure in Gujarat while contributing to the broader development of India’s renewable energy ecosystem.
