LG Energy Solution has partnered with Honda and the Hanoi city government to expand electric vehicle battery-swapping infrastructure in Vietnam’s capital.
Under a newly signed memorandum of understanding, the companies plan to install around 50 battery-swapping stations across Hanoi and deploy approximately 500 electric motorcycles starting in the third quarter of this year.
The battery-swapping system will allow riders to replace depleted batteries with fully charged ones in minutes, eliminating long charging wait times and improving convenience for daily commuters.
The initiative supports Vietnam’s broader push toward cleaner transportation. Hanoi has announced plans to phase out fossil fuel-powered motorbikes as part of efforts to reduce urban air pollution and accelerate the adoption of electric mobility
The project is expected to strengthen Vietnam’s growing EV ecosystem and could pave the way for wider adoption of battery-swapping technology across Southeast Asia.
