Mahindra Unveils Advanced EV Manufacturing Facility in Chakan

At its Chakan plant, Mahindra has opened a brand-new, state-of-the-art manufacturing and battery assembly facility. Mahindra’s continued dedication to creating a completely integrated ecosystem for the production of Electric Origin SUVs is reflected in this new plant. The plant is part of the company’s vast 2.83 km² Chakan manufacturing cluster, one of the biggest greenfield projects in India. It is a 100% renewable energy-dependent, water-positive facility. This illustrates Mahindra’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing methods and innovation.

Mahindra has set aside ₹4,500 Crores of the ₹16,000 Crores designated for the F22–F27 period as part of its broader investment strategy. Powertrain development, product innovation, software and technology advancements, and increased manufacturing capacity are the goals of this initiative. With more than 1,000 robots and a variety of automated transfer systems, the new EV plant is a highly automated and connected manufacturing ecosystem that guarantees accuracy and efficiency throughout the production process. Furthermore, Mahindra is prioritizing quality and talent development, with the facility striving for a gender diversity ratio of 25%, further solidifying an inclusive and forward-thinking workplace.

The next-generation EV factory is 88,000 m² in size and has state-of-the-art equipment to maximize production. The facility includes one of India’s most sophisticated robotic paint shops, a fully automated press shop, and an AI-powered body shop. The Body Shop alone uses more than 500 robots and automated transfer systems, all of which are monitored by an Internet of Things-based “Nerve Center” for real-time process insights. These sections are centered on optimizing quality and efficiency. Additionally, the factory uses Industry 4.0 technologies, such as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), to improve production speed, safety, and dependability and to provide seamless material handling.

Mahindra is making a significant contribution to the direction of mobility with its new plant. Mahindra is reaffirming its dedication to the “Make in India for the World” campaign by fusing localized battery assembly with advanced automation and a strong emphasis on innovation. This achievement also supports India’s efforts to promote clean and sustainable energy solutions in the transportation sector, which is in line with the country’s 2030 COP26 targets.
