The Government of Mizoram has invited bids for an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract worth ₹13.09 crore to develop a 1.5 MW solar power plant coupled with a 900 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Zoram Medical College & Hospital.
The project is aimed at enhancing energy reliability and promoting the use of renewable energy within the state’s healthcare infrastructure. By integrating solar generation with battery storage, the facility is expected to ensure a stable power supply for critical hospital operations while reducing dependence on conventional electricity sources.
The proposed solar-plus-storage installation will generate clean electricity during daylight hours, while the battery energy storage system will store excess power for use during periods of peak demand, grid interruptions, or low solar generation. Such hybrid systems are increasingly being deployed across India to improve energy resilience and maximize renewable energy utilization.
The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen sustainable infrastructure in the healthcare sector, where uninterrupted power supply is essential for medical equipment, emergency services, laboratories, and patient care facilities. The deployment of battery storage alongside solar generation is expected to enhance energy security and operational efficiency at the medical institution.
India has witnessed growing adoption of solar-plus-storage solutions in recent years, driven by declining technology costs, government support for renewable energy, and the need for reliable power across critical infrastructure sectors. Healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and government buildings are increasingly exploring integrated renewable energy systems to lower electricity costs and improve sustainability.
Once completed, the project is expected to contribute to Mizoram’s clean energy objectives while supporting the state’s efforts to modernize public infrastructure through renewable energy technologies. The tender also presents opportunities for EPC contractors and renewable energy developers to participate in the growing market for distributed solar and energy storage projects.
