India is accelerating its shift toward high-efficiency solar manufacturing, with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) releasing the ninth revision of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for solar photovoltaic (PV) cells.
Issued by MNRE’s Grid Solar Power Division on August 21, 2026, the latest revision adds new solar cell models, updates technical specifications, and provides revised manufacturing capacity details for several domestic manufacturers.
The ALMM List-II framework, introduced on July 31, 2025, is periodically updated to reflect developments in India’s domestic solar manufacturing industry. The approved list is designed to ensure that solar PV cells used in government-supported projects meet specified quality, efficiency and performance standards.
TOPCon and HJT Gain Ground
The latest revision highlights the increasing adoption of N-Type TOPCon and Heterojunction Technology (HJT) cells in India’s solar manufacturing landscape. These technologies offer higher conversion efficiencies than conventional Mono-PERC cells and are increasingly being adopted by manufacturers seeking to improve module performance.
TP Solar Ltd., based in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, continues to have an enlisted annual manufacturing capacity of 4,480 MW. Its approved portfolio includes Mono Crystalline PERC and TOPCon Bifacial cells, with updated minimum efficiency specifications of 20.50%.
ReNewsys India Pvt. Ltd., located in Telangana, has an enlisted capacity of 452 MW for Bifacial N-Type TOPCon cells, with listed efficiencies ranging from 20.50% to 25.60%.
Premier Energies Photovoltaic Pvt. Ltd. has an enlisted capacity of 1,358 MW for Bifacial N-Type TOPCon cells, with efficiencies ranging from 22.50% to 26%.
Reliance, Waaree and Avaada Expand High-Efficiency Portfolios
Reliance Industries Ltd., with its solar manufacturing facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat, is listed with 1,238 MW of manufacturing capacity for HJT solar cells. Its approved models offer efficiencies of up to 26%.
Waaree Energies Ltd. has secured approval for Mono Crystalline TOPCon N-Type cells in the G12R format. The newly listed models represent an enlisted capacity of 4,021 MW, with an average efficiency of 25.39%. The approval is valid until December 2029.
Waaree also retains its previously listed 1,328 MW Mono-PERC manufacturing capacity.
EMMVEE Energy Pvt. Ltd. has added Bifacial Mono-c-Si TOPCon cell models with an enlisted capacity of 2,153 MW and an average efficiency of 25.60%.
Avaada Electro Ltd. has further expanded its approved manufacturing portfolio, with 3,621 MW of listed capacity for N-Type TOPCon half-cut and full-cell configurations. The cells offer maximum efficiencies of up to 26.30%, with the enlistment valid until July 2030.
Higher Efficiency Supports Domestic Solar Supply Chain
The latest ALMM update demonstrates the continued transition of India’s solar cell manufacturing sector toward higher-efficiency technologies. Although Mono-PERC remains on the approved list, N-Type TOPCon and HJT are gaining a larger presence as manufacturers invest in next-generation production capabilities.
Many of the newly approved models incorporate Potential Induced Degradation (PID)-free claims and use formats including M10, M10R, G12 and G12R.
The approvals, which generally remain valid for several years, give manufacturers greater visibility while helping project developers identify eligible domestic cell suppliers for government-backed solar projects.
For India’s broader clean-energy ecosystem, the move is significant as higher-efficiency solar cells can increase power generation from a given project footprint. This can complement the growing deployment of batteries and energy-storage systems by increasing renewable generation available for charging storage assets.
With domestic manufacturers expanding TOPCon and HJT capacity, the latest ALMM revision reinforces India’s push to build a more technologically advanced and self-reliant solar manufacturing supply chain.
