Mobis India Inaugurates Battery Assembly Plant In Sriperumbudur

Mobis India Limited, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor India and part of the global Hyundai Mobis network, marked a major milestone in India’s electric mobility journey with the inauguration of its Electric Vehicle Battery System Assembly (BSA) Plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.

The state-of-the-art facility was officially inaugurated by Dr T R B Rajaa, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion & Commerce, in the presence of key dignitaries, including T M Anbarasan, Minister for MSMEs, and Park Ki Chul, Managing Director, Mobis India.

Strategically located adjacent to Hyundai Motor India Limited’s car manufacturing facility, the BSA plant spans 8.15 acres and will assemble high-performance Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery systems for Hyundai’s electric vehicles, starting with the CRETA Electric.

Equipped with fully automated assembly lines, robotic precision systems, and advanced quality controls, the plant adheres to high global standards. It also adopts eco-conscious manufacturing practices, integrating sustainable materials and minimising environmental impact. The plant will soon be capable of producing Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery packs in addition to NMC systems.

The facility is expected to generate 255 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the local economy and reinforcing the industrial synergy between Hyundai Motor India and Mobis India.

Speaking at the event, Rajaa said, “This plant strengthens Tamil Nadu’s localisation capabilities and supports the Chief Minister’s vision of a $1 trillion economy.”

Chul emphasised the strategic importance of this investment stating: “This facility reflects our resolve to support India’s clean mobility vision, aligned with ‘Make in India’ and Hyundai’s local EV production goals. Tamil Nadu’s forward-thinking industrial ecosystem has been key to this progress.”
