NTPC has issued a tender for a 4,000 MWh battery energy storage system at its thermal power stations, with a 12-year lifespan and multiple site installations.

NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC, has commissioned 75 MW of solar power under Lot-4 of the IRCON Renewable Power Ltd. (IRPL) project. This addition brings the total operational capacity of the IRPL plant to 225 MW, out of the planned 500 MW. The commercial operations commenced on May 2, 2025.

IRPL is a joint venture between Ayana Renewable Power Pvt. Ltd. and ONGC NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd., showcasing a strategic collaboration between NTPC and ONGC to drive India’s clean energy transition. The IRPL project is being developed in phases and is a significant contributor to India’s renewable energy goals.

Alongside this milestone, NTPC Green Energy added 135 MW of renewable energy capacity in Q4 FY25, contributing to 550 MW of additions during the financial year. This aligns with NTPC’s broader vision of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.

In a regulatory filing, NTPC also reported a 3.88% rise in power generation for FY 2024-25, producing 438.6 billion units (BU), up from 422.2 BU the previous year. The group added a total of 3,972 MW in new capacity during FY25, taking its installed capacity to approximately 80 GW. An additional 32 GW of capacity, including 15 GW from renewables, is under construction.

NTPC Green Energy continues to play a pivotal role in supporting India’s transition to a cleaner energy future.
