NTPC REL Signs Green Ammonia Supply Agreement with SECI

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited, has entered into a Green Ammonia Purchase Agreement (GAPA) with Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited to supply green ammonia under the Government of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The agreement, signed on March 30, 2026, marks a key development in the country’s efforts to transition toward cleaner fuels and reduce carbon emissions across industrial sectors.

NTPC REL will provide 70,000 metric tonnes per year (MTPA) of green ammonia as part of the deal. Krishna Phoschem Limited, which is based in Meghnagar, will be the end user of this supply. Under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme, SECI will be the middleman buyer, making the deal happen and making sure that demand is organised.

The agreement is expected to strengthen India’s green hydrogen and ammonia ecosystem, supporting the broader goal of industrial decarbonization. It also reflects the growing adoption of green fuels across sectors such as fertilizers, shipping, and heavy industries.

The partnership’s goals are to cut down on fossil fuel use, lower carbon emissions from industry, and build up the country’s ability to make green fuel. These goals are in line with the SIGHT Scheme, which is a key part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The initiative is also intended to position India as a global hub for green hydrogen and related technologies.

The company said that carrying out this agreement is a big step forward for its green hydrogen and green ammonia portfolio. It shows that NTPC Green Energy is still focused on growing its clean energy footprint and helping India reach its long-term net-zero goals.

The partnership between NTPC REL and SECI shows that India is making faster progress toward cleaner industrial energy systems as the world needs more sustainable energy solutions. This development strengthens NTPC Group’s role in promoting new ideas and expanding renewable energy solutions across the country.
