PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited has appointed Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective April 1, 2026. The appointment follows approval by the company’s Board of Directors in line with a Ministry of Power order dated March 18, 2026.
Tenure and Appointment Details
Vamsi Rama Mohan has taken charge with immediate effect and will serve as CMD until July 31, 2030, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders. Prior to this elevation, he was serving as Director (Projects) at POWERGRID.
The company said that he is not related to any directors or key managers, and that no regulatory body has said that he can’t hold the position, which means that he is fully in line with governance standards.
Extensive Industry Experience
Vamsi has more than 33 years of experience in the power transmission and telecom industries. He has a degree in engineering and postgraduate degrees in planning, project management and management.
During his long tenure at POWERGRID, he has held several strategic roles spanning:
- Projects and procurement
- Commercial and regulatory functions
- Asset management and telecom operations
He was also among the founding members of the company’s Regulatory Cell, playing a significant role in enabling POWERGRID’s participation in competitive bidding within the power transmission sector.
Driving Telecom and Digital Expansion
Vamsi Rama Mohan has also made a big difference in the company’s digital and telecom projects. As the head of Powergrid Teleservices Limited, he oversaw the growth of the telecom business and started the company’s first data center project.
During his tenure as Director (Projects), POWERGRID achieved record capitalisation and capital expenditure (CAPEX) milestones, reflecting strong execution capabilities and project delivery efficiency.

The appointment marks an important leadership transition for POWERGRID as it continues to focus on expanding transmission infrastructure, strengthening digital capabilities, and supporting India’s growing energy demand.
Vamsi Rama Mohan has a lot of experience and has been a leader in the past. He will be in charge of the company’s next phase of growth, which will focus on expanding the grid, integrating new technologies, and building new infrastructure.
