RoadGrid Bags ₹13 Crore TDB Funding to Expand Universal EV Charger Manufacturing

RoadGrid Bags ₹13 Crore TDB Funding to Expand Universal EV Charger Manufacturing

RoadGrid India Private Limited has received ₹13 crore in financial support from the Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, to scale the manufacturing of its patented Universal EV Charger. The funding will support the company’s ₹27.5 crore project to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing and assembly facility, enabling large-scale production and accelerating the deployment of indigenous EV charging solutions across India.

The support marks a significant milestone for RoadGrid and reinforces India’s push to build indigenous technologies for electric mobility. The project aims to address one of the biggest challenges in EV adoption by manufacturing interoperable charging solutions capable of serving electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles and commercial EVs through a single integrated platform.

The upcoming facility, being developed with an investment of ₹27.5 crore, including ₹18 crore towards manufacturing infrastructure, will have an annual production capacity of 2,000 Universal EV Chargers. Commercial production is expected to commence in March 2027 and will create more than 100 direct jobs.

RoadGrid has developed a patented Universal EV Charger integrating a 140 kW dual DC charging system supporting CCS2 and Type 6 connectors along with AC charging capability. Designed as a single integrated platform, the charger enables seamless charging across multiple vehicle segments while simplifying charging infrastructure for operators.

The facility will undertake end-to-end manufacturing and assembly of power electronics, thermal management systems, embedded software, communication modules, metering systems, control hardware, enclosure fabrication, quality testing, calibration and final system integration. Built with 100 percent localisation, the project is expected to strengthen India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities for advanced EV charging equipment while reducing dependence on imported technologies.

Founded in 2020, RoadGrid is an integrated EV charging technology company developing indigenous charging hardware, intelligent software platforms and energy management solutions. Earlier this year, the company raised ₹12 crore in a pre-Series A funding round led by Venture Catalysts to accelerate product development, manufacturing and charging infrastructure deployment.

Today, RoadGrid employs more than 40 people and has secured two patents for its charging technologies. The company has already deployed over 100 EV chargers, manages more than 200 charging points and serves six enterprise customers across Indore, Mumbai and Kolkata. It has also partnered with leading mobility and energy companies including VinFast, HPCL and IOCL as it expands its presence in India’s rapidly evolving EV ecosystem.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, Technology Development Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, said,”The rapid expansion of reliable and interoperable charging infrastructure is fundamental to accelerating electric mobility in India. Indigenous development and manufacturing of advanced EV charging technologies will strengthen the domestic clean mobility ecosystem, reduce import dependence and support the country’s transition towards sustainable transportation. The Technology Development Board remains committed to supporting technology-driven enterprises that are building globally competitive solutions for India’s green mobility future.”

Shashank Narayan, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of RoadGrid India Private Limited, said, “The Technology Development Board’s support is a strong validation of our vision to build advanced EV charging technology in India. The new manufacturing facility is expected to significantly enhance India’s capacity to produce advanced EV charging equipment while supporting the rapid expansion of charging infrastructure across cities, highways, residential communities and commercial fleet operations. The company expects the facility to generate annual revenues of around ₹100 crore at an initial production level of 1,000 chargers and will remain focused on meeting the growing demand within the Indian market.

India is expected to require more than four lakh public EV chargers by 2030, creating a significant opportunity for indigenous charging technologies. Through this project, RoadGrid aims to contribute to building a scalable, interoperable and future-ready charging ecosystem designed and manufactured in India.
