Rongjie Energy Secures 5GWh Energy Storage Deal with JSW Energy

Rongjie Energy has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with JSW Energy for a 5GWh energy storage deployment, marking a significant step in the companies’ efforts to support India’s rapidly expanding energy storage market.

The agreement covers energy storage system (ESS) solutions with capacities of 5MWh and 6.26MWh. The systems will use Rongjie Energy’s 314Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells as well as its newly mass-produced 588Ah LFP cells.

JSW Energy, one of India’s major integrated power companies, currently has 13.45GW of installed capacity and has set an ambitious target of developing 40GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. The partnership with Rongjie Energy is expected to support the company’s broader strategy to integrate energy storage into its renewable energy portfolio.

For Rongjie Energy, the 5GWh agreement represents more than a large-scale order. The company said the partnership reflects JSW Energy’s confidence in its battery technology, product quality and ability to deliver energy storage systems at scale.

The use of both 314Ah and 588Ah LFP cells highlights the growing shift toward higher-capacity battery cells for utility-scale energy storage. Larger-format cells can help reduce the number of cells and associated system components required for a given storage capacity, potentially improving system integration and efficiency.

India’s demand for battery energy storage systems is growing as renewable power generation expands and utilities seek greater flexibility to manage intermittent solar and wind generation. Large-scale storage projects are increasingly being positioned as a key component of India’s transition toward a more flexible and reliable power system.

The agreement between Rongjie Energy and JSW Energy adds further momentum to this trend, bringing together a major Indian power company and an energy storage technology provider for a multi-gigawatt-hour deployment.

Rongjie Energy said it is proud to support JSW Energy’s energy transition plans and views the agreement as the beginning of a broader collaboration in India’s energy storage sector.
