SECI Signs Performance MoU with MNRE for FY 2026-27

Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), signed its annual performance-based Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MNRE, Government of India, for the financial year 2026-27.
Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, MNRE, and Joshit Sikidar, Director Finance, SECI, signed the MoU at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan, New Delhi , in the presence of Senior officials of MNRE and SECI.
Under the MoU, the Government of India has set SECI a Revenue from Operations target of ₹24,000 crore for FY 2026-27. The MoU also sets targets across other key performance parameters, including Trading of renewable energy, Administrative Ministry Priorities, Capital Expenditure, Project Execution, and Return on Net Worth.
Joshit Sikidar, Director Finance, SECI, expressed confidence in the company’s growth trajectory. He said: “SECI remains committed to building on its strong performance record and to playing a leading role in the development of India’s renewable energy sector. Alongside our core activities, we will continue to strengthen our presence in new and emerging areas in support of the nation’s clean energy transition.”
Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) is the foremost Navratna CPSU dedicated to the growth and development of Renewable Energy (RE) capacity in India.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is the nodal Ministry of the Government of India for all matters relating to new and renewable energy. The broad aim of the Ministry is to develop and deploy new and renewable energy to supplement the energy requirements of the country.

The role of new and renewable energy has been assuming increasing significance in recent times with the growing concern for the country’s energy security. Energy self-sufficiency was identified as the major driver for new and renewable energy in the country in the wake of the two oil shocks of the 1970s.

The sudden increase in the price of oil, uncertainties associated with its supply and the adverse impact on the balance of payments position led to the establishment of the Commission for Additional Sources of Energy in the Department of Science & Technology in March 1981.

The Commission was charged with the responsibility of formulating policies and their implementation, programmes for development of new and renewable energy apart from coordinating and intensifying R&D in the sector. In September 1982, a new department, i.e., Department of Non-conventional Energy Sources (DNES), that incorporated CASE, was created in the then Ministry of Energy. In 1992, DNES became the Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources. In October 2006, the Ministry was renamed as the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
