THDCIL has announced that it has changed the position of Ajay Vaerma as Executive Director of the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project from Head of the Project, effective from May 1st. He has been serving as Head of the Project for the 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project (VPHEP) since 2023.
Verma’s elevation to the post from Chief General Manager to Executive Director follows the recommendation of the company’s Departmental Promotion Committee, the company said in a statement.
A civil engineering professional with over three decades of experience, Ajay Verma joined THDCIL in July 1990 as an engineer (trainee) and has since held several key roles across rehabilitation, construction, corporate contracts, vigilance, and project planning and quality control.
He has been associated with major projects, including the Tehri Dam spillway works and the Koteshwar Dam. He also played a key role in the timely commissioning of the Dhukwan Small Hydroelectric Project (3×8 MW) and later handled contracts management and the ash dyke package at the Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (1,320 MW).
The company said the project has witnessed significant progress under his leadership, supported by effective decision-making and management of complex social, geological, and technical challenges.
Verma has completed his civil engineering from M.S. Ramaiah College, Bengaluru, and holds a postgraduate diploma in construction management from the Delhi Productivity Council, along with a postgraduate certificate in project management from IIM, Indore.
