THDCIL Signs ₹13,200 Cr MoU with Gujarat Govt for 2,210 MW Pumped Storage Project

THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to develop the 2,210 MW Anjan Kund Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in the Dang district of Gujarat. With a projected investment of Rs 13,200 crore, this project represents a key step in strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure and enhancing grid reliability.

Presence of the ministers

The MoU was signed on October 9 in the presence of the Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Mehsana. Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi; the Finance, energy and petrochemicals minister of Gujarat, Kanubhai Desai; Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi (IAS); Additional Chief Secretary (I/C) Manoj Kumar Das (IAS); NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh; and a number of other senior dignitaries and officials also attended this event.

This time, THDCIL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) RK Vishnoi said the MoU is a landmark milestone, and the company will definitely pursue its goal of expanding the potential of renewable energy in India. He pointed out that the undertaking conforms to the vision of THDCIL to create massive energy storage facilities to ensure on-demand renewable energy and grid security.

As evidence of THDCIL experience in the industry, Vishnoi noted that the company had already launched the largest pumped storage in India, the 1,000 MW Tehri PSP, which demonstrates its expertise and capacity in implementing complex energy infrastructure projects.

According to the MoU

All the required State-level facilitation and clearances will be made by the Government of Gujarat, and the planning, development, and implementation of the project will be done by THDCIL.

On behalf of Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL) and The hydropower corporation of India Limited, Ajay Prakash (IAS) and Neeraj Verma (I/C, NCR) respectively signed the MoU on behalf of the Government of Gujarat and THDC india Limited. Others who attended were AK Vijay Kumar, Special Officer (Former Special Commissioner, Govt. of Gujarat) and senior THDCIL officials such as MK Jain, GM (PSP-Solar), SK Mittal, AGM (PSP-Solar), and Shiv Raj Chauhan, AGM (I/C, WPP).

The event also included THDCIL having a display interactive exhibition stall, which was also of great interest to the visitors and brought out the organization’s success in the development of hydropower and renewable energy.
