The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) has approved transmission projects worth nearly ₹567 crore, paving the way for major power infrastructure upgrades across the state, including projects in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region.
The approval has been granted for multiple transmission schemes proposed by the Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL) to strengthen the state’s transmission network and support rising electricity demand.
Among the approved projects are schemes aimed at enhancing power evacuation infrastructure, improving grid reliability and meeting the growing electricity requirements of industrial and urban clusters. The projects include transmission works to be executed under different implementation models, including Regulated Tariff Mechanism (RTM), Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB), and Deposit Works.
A significant portion of the approved investment is directed towards strengthening the transmission infrastructure in the YEIDA area, which has emerged as one of Uttar Pradesh’s fastest-growing industrial and manufacturing hubs. The region has witnessed increasing power demand due to rapid industrialisation, infrastructure development and the establishment of new manufacturing facilities.
According to the Commission’s order, the proposed schemes were examined by the Transmission Works Committee (TWC) before being placed before UPERC for approval. The Commission reviewed the technical and financial aspects of the projects before granting its approval.
The approved schemes are expected to improve grid stability, reduce transmission constraints and ensure reliable power supply to consumers across various parts of the state. The projects will also support future load growth arising from industrial expansion and urban development.
Strengthening transmission infrastructure has become increasingly important as states accelerate renewable energy integration and prepare their grids for rising electricity consumption. Industry experts believe that timely investments in transmission networks will be critical to ensuring uninterrupted power supply and facilitating the addition of new generation capacity.
With Uttar Pradesh witnessing sustained growth in industrial activity and urbanisation, the latest approval is expected to play an important role in enhancing the state’s power infrastructure while supporting long-term economic development.
The projects will now move towards the implementation stage following the Commission’s approval.
