Travancore Titanium Products Ltd (TTPL) and Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) have partnered to make batteries for electric cars, a significant step towards developing an e-vehicle ecosystem in the state.

VSSCVSSC deputy director S A Ilangovan inaugurated the Battery Material Research Centre at an EV Conference hosted by the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategy Council.

He described it as a critical government endeavor to lessen the carbon impact. At the event, a whitepaper on lithium titanate was also launched.

According to George Ninan, managing director of Travancore Titanium Products, the venture into lithium titanate is part of the company’s diversification strategy and will aid in the cheaper production of batteries.

According to CMD N Narayana Murthy of the Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation, the company will open a supercapacitor production facility in Kannur by June or July.
