Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has sent Waaree Forever Energies Private Limited, a subsidiary of Waaree Energies Limited, a Letter of Award (LoA) for the development of a 300 MW wind power project in Dwarka, Gujarat.
As per the regulatory filing, the company has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SECI for a period of 25 years, effective from the scheduled Commencement of Supply Date.
Gujarat Strengthens Position as Wind Hub
Gujarat remains one of India’s largest onshore wind markets. The Dwarka project adds to the state’s growing wind capacity under central government tenders. Regions such as Saurashtra and Kutch, including Devbhumi Dwarka, are known for strong and stable wind regimes.
High wind speeds and consistent wind patterns in these regions lead to better capacity utilisation factors (CUFs), which improve overall project economics and provide stronger revenue certainty.
Context: SECI’s 1,200 MW Wind Auction
Earlier this year, SECI awarded 1,200 MW of wind power capacity in February to seven bidders.
- KP Energy Limited secured 100 MW at a tariff of INR 3.67 per kWh, emerging as the lowest bidder.
- At INR 3.68 per kWh, the following developers secured capacity:
- Ganeko Three Energy – 180 MW
- Waaree Renewable Energy – 300 MW
- Opera Energy – 50 MW
- At INR 3.69 per kWh:
- Purvah Green Power – 250 MW
- Vena Energy Aura – 124 MW
- Refex Holding Private Limited filled the remaining capacity through the auction’s bucket-filling mechanism.
Other Wind Developments in Dwarka
In 2025, Apraava Energy commissioned a 250.7 MW wind power project in Sidhpur, Devbhumi Dwarka. The project includes 120 units of 2.1 MW-rated Suzlon wind turbine generators and was awarded under SECI’s Tranche VIII wind tender. With this addition, Apraava Energy’s operational wind capacity reached around 1,200 MW.
Additionally, Juniper Green Energy commissioned 28 MW out of its 70 MW wind project in Devbhumi Dwarka through its subsidiary Juniper Green Kite Private Limited on October 15, 2025 four months ahead of its Scheduled Commercial Operation Date of February 7, 2026. The subsidiary had signed a PPA with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited on February 8, 2024, for the full 70 MW capacity.
The latest award further strengthens Dwarka’s role as a key wind energy hub in India.
