ACME Group and IHI Corporation’s joint venture green ammonia project, with an annual production capacity of 405,000 tonnes, being developed at Gopalpur, Odisha, has been certified under Japan’s price gap support programme by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) under the Hydrogen Society Promotion Act.
The certification marks a significant milestone for the project and strengthens India–Japan cooperation in advancing clean energy and low-carbon industrial development.
Under Japan’s clean hydrogen Contract for Difference (CfD) subsidy programme, the project has been selected to receive price support for 228,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually over a 25-year period, beginning in September 2030.
In addition, 177,000 tonnes per annum of the project’s production capacity has been allocated under Japan’s Long-Term Decarbonised Power Source Auction (LTDA) programme. The Gopalpur facility is expected to be commissioned by July 2030.
Alongside the Gopalpur development, ACME Group has commenced work on another green ammonia project at Paradip, Odisha, with an annual production capacity of 800,000 tonnes. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in 2029.
For the Paradip facility, ACME has signed a Green Ammonia Purchase Agreement (GAPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for the supply of 370,000 tonnes per annum. A further 83,000 tonnes per annum has been awarded under Japan’s Long-Term Decarbonised Power Source Auction (LTDA) programme for exports to Japan.
These developments represent an important step in strengthening India–Japan collaboration on the global energy transition while reinforcing ACME Group’s position as a leading Indian player in Japan’s emerging clean hydrogen and green ammonia import ecosystem.
